For over thirty-five years Jeff Hoffman has filmed in virtually every state and province, as a dual-citizen of the US and Canada. Working in Hollywood and New York for over 25 years, projects also sent him on location to Mexico, Europe, Israel, and places as remote as Easter Island and both the North & South Poles. Shooting in such a wide range of locations—many as co-producer as well as cinematographer— Hoffman garnered extensive credits filming a variety of formats from commercials, documentaries and feature films, to television series, sit-coms and music videos.
With clients such as Showtime, Nickelodeon and South Carolina Tourism, to employers such as Disney Studios, the “Big Three” US networks and the CBC in Canada, Hoffman has proven his versatility in both film and video production. Beyond North America, Hoffman served Japanese commercial clients Toyota & Lexus and was co-producer and cinematographer on international television series for German TV networks ZDF and ARD, featuring American icons Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, as well as jazz, Cajun, blues and gospel artists.
The breadth of experience Hoffman acquired shooting both film and video projects naturally lends itself to teaching others. Highlights of his credits include Pee-Wee's Playhouse (15 Emmys), Michael Jackson's “Thriller” music video and feature films Ray (Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles), War (Jet Li), Man on the Moon (Jim Carrey, Golden Globe recipient), as well as acclaimed Canadian documentary “The Corporation” and feature length documentary “Ayn Rand: A Sense of Life” which received an Academy Award nomination.
Mark Steele believes communicating a concept accurately from one person to another is a skill that takes time to learn. Whether learning on one’s own or from collaborating with others he feels that good communication and listening skills are the key to getting the job done well.
For over 25 years, Steele was a top editor in the Boston television market.
At WGBH-TV he edited flagship programs such as American Experience, NOVA, Frontline, Masterpiece, Antiques Roadshow and others. He later moved on to Harvard University where he was post production supervisor for video production of their on-line educational courses.
Now having worked in the production business over 40 years, Steele prefers directing and editing musical performances for broadcast, as well as working on his own personal projects, independent films and with clients on a variety of video productions. Building on the traditional fundamentals of the television industry—and moving from yesterday’s computer editing to today’s digital media technology— Steele currently develops projects that support alternatives to on-air broadcast. From audio and lighting to post production and presentation, he appreciates the multi-tiered aspect of video production. Steele is passionate about sharing his extensive experience going forward, to teach students who are ready to learn camera techniques and editing, as well as collaborate with others on visual projects.
